Sinometrics' Mission Statement

We deliver ''down the hall'' localization solutions that are creative and client-driven.

Sinometrics' Values

1.   People

  • We respect individuality by creating an environment where people can utilize their strengths and skills

  • We value a healthy balance between work and family, encouraging personal and professional growth by providing a stimulating work environment.

    2.   Our Clients

  • We value our clients by maintaining clear communication on project status; providing assistance in creative problem-solving; keeping high quality standards; and supporting them by using the latest technology.

    3.   Community & Diversity

  • We value local people and organizations by using our diverse backgrounds and languages to give back to our community by means of service projects, annual pro bono work, and paid time off for volunteering.

    Corporate Citizenship

As a translation and localization company, we are integrally a part of the global community. As a company whose international headquarters are located in the heart of downtown Seattle, we are simultaneously a part of Seattle's local and urban community. Although translation work is our commercial specialty, we believe good business means more than performing a job well-done; good business means good relationships, both with our clients and our local community.

To this end, we have developed an urban philosophy, company policy, annual ''zest'' program, and community service program, all of which stem from our company's values.

    Urban Philosophy

As an urban business, we experience both the benefits and difficulties that come with urban culture. One of the issues we deal with face-to-face, on a daily basis, is homelessness. Downtown Seattle is where a majority of the over 8,000 homeless in King County call ''home,'' and as downtown commercial residents, we believe that interaction with and respect towards the homeless community is imperative for living out our values and being socially responsible urban citizens. We don't want to be people who work downtown but who are otherwise detached from its diversity and energy; we want to be connected to, and are a part of, what makes downtown ''downtown'', from the guitar-playing local who drifts along Third Avenue to the chaotic foot-traffic during the lunch hour to the map-holding tourists who are trying to locate Pike Place Market. We are in and a part of this community, warts and all, and we are proud and thankful to call this vibrant neighborhood ''home''.

    Company Policy

Along with the benefits of working downtown come adversities, and to create as safe an environment as possible, we have developed a company policy:

  • To treat all people-homeless or not-with respect, dignity, and compassion (e.g. looking someone in the eye, acknowledging his/her presence, passing along a smile.).

  • To be aware of local community programs that offer physical, emotional, or mental support to the homeless and dispense this knowledge as needed. For a list of links to Seattle-based programs, click here.

  • To avoid stereotyping and remember that each individual has a unique set of circumstances that contributed to bringing him/her to the streets.

  • To take general safety precautions around our building, especially during after-business hours, by avoiding unlit streets and alleys and by traveling in pairs when possible.

  • To refrain from giving cash to the homeless and instead volunteer our time in the community assisting local non-profit organizations who are trying to alleviate poverty and homelessness in the greater-Seattle area.

  • To contact outside authorities (e.g. the Seattle police department) when needed.

  • To actively address and deal with inappropriate situations (e.g. sexual harassment, verbal harassment, etc.) immediately.

  • To make our whereabouts known to at least one other employee when leaving the building.

  • To trust our instincts and error on the safe side in any questionable situation.

    Annual ''Zest''

Starting in 2007, Sinometrics will choose an annual activity to tighten company bonds, increase office morale, and provide another opportunity for our staff to learn more about each other; in short, to have some good, old-fashioned fun. Our 2007 ''Quest for Zest'' is all about food. For hundreds-even thousands-of years, across borders and people groups, food has been at the heart of cultural identity and community. To celebrate the diversity of the city, as well as our own backgrounds, we will eat ethnic foods from around the world once a month during lunchtime, alternating between eating out and making foods from our own cultures. Bon Appétit!

    Company Community Service

We believe that global and urban citizenship means being aware of, and then acting on, our community's needs. We regularly do pro bono translation work for non-profit and community organizations, but also feel that being a part of a community means interacting with the community on a face-to-face level. To that extent, we have developed a community service program in which we quarterly donate our time and multi-lingual skills to local organizations. For 2007, we have chosen to participate in the ''Community Lunch on Capitol Hill'' program (http://www.communitylunch.org/), which serves lunch to low-income and homeless guests each Tuesday and Friday. We will assist the program managers with set-up, cooking, serving, and clean-up.

Additionally, as people have busy and disparate family and personal schedules, we support each others' individual volunteer interests by allocating two days of paid community service time for each staff member to spend as he or she wishes.

A ''down the hall'' mentality means being accessible, reliable, and flexible. It means showing up on time, delivering on what is promised, and being available at a moment's notice. Important jobs can be handed off to people ''down the hall'' with the confidence that they will be handled correctly and thoroughly. Sinometrics may not physically be located down the hall from you or your business, but to our clients, it feels that way. Over the years, they have come to expect the same excellence in quality and responsiveness from us that they expect from their own people. Come work with us and experience our refreshing approach to business. Our doors are always open.
